Authentic Swing

“To be nobody but yourself in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting. “ — EE Cummings
In Pressfield’s Legend of Bagger VanceBagger tells Junah: “Yep… Inside each and every one of us is one true authentic swing… Somethin’ we was born with… Somethin’ that’s ours and ours alone… Somethin’ that can’t be taught to ya or learned… Somethin’ that got to be remembered… Over time the world can, rob us of that swing… It get buried inside us under all our wouldas and couldas and shouldas… Some folk even forget what their swing was like…”
We are at our best when we return to our authentic selves. As Bagger and Cummings both say in different ways, the world will put up one heck of a fight to prevent us from being what we were born to be, the beauty of it is that we don’t have to reach our destination tomorrow, we only have to change direction.
