The Problem Isn’t Materialism

The Dalai Lama teaches, “the problem isn’t materialism as such, it is the underlying assumption that full satisfaction can arise from gratifying the senses alone.”
Our cat Nellie’s quest for happiness is limited to food, a comfortable place to sleep, watching birds out the window, and avoiding the rocking chair. Most animals search for happiness is limited to the satisfaction of sensory demands and desires.
But we humans have the chance and opportunity to experience pure joy and happiness at a much more intense level. This joy doesn’t come from satisfying any sensory gratification.
No, the joy that can even overcome any unhappiness comes from a special place or gene God put in each human.
Consider what brings you joy and happiness that doesn’t satisfy any sensory desire. When you do you will not only discover your humanity, you will discover that hidden path that God has planned for you to take all along.
