Feedback

Yesterday afternoon was a wonderful reminder of why I have always loved speaking to book clubs. It had been quite a while since I last joined one here in Charlotte, and the experience was truly revitalizing. The members were deeply engaged and curious about the creative process; more importantly, they offered the kind of insightful feedback that will undoubtedly shape my future novels. Though I left the meeting feeling physically exhausted, I felt spiritually and creatively refreshed.

During my meditation this morning, my thoughts drifted back to yesterday’s event and the universal value of feedback. Throughout our lives, we rely on it from parents, teachers, bosses, and coaches. To exist without it—to never know where we stand or how we might grow—can be devastating. But the realization that struck me most wasn’t just our need to receive feedback; it was our responsibility to provide it. We aren’t called to be overly critical or to sugarcoat the truth, but rather to offer honest, constructive insights that can serve as a true catalyst for others.

I also found myself reflecting on how God communicates with us. While He may not speak to us directly in a literal sense, He provides constant feedback through the world around us. We see it in the natural reactions of those we encounter: the smile of someone being served in a food line, or the quiet, tired “thank you” from an elderly family member as they are tucked into bed. Feedback doesn’t always require words; it is often written in the language of human connection.

Ultimately, the best thing about yesterday’s meeting wasn’t just the help I received for my writing—it was the inspiration to be more conscious and proactive about providing that same light and guidance to others.
