Peace

I had just finished posting my piece Give Peace A Chance for The Clyde Fitch Report when I picked up the paper to read that the President is sending troops to Turkey for Christmas. I guess that shows how influential my voice is. Seriously, it was depressing to read the headlines, and to know what those soldiers and their families must be going through while the rest of us go on with our Christmas festivities. Perhaps the headlines were a needed reminder of one of the true meanings of the Advent season – hope. I think about the soldier’s spouses and children and realize that in the flicker of a moment their hopes and wishes changed from a GI Joe with a Kung Fu grip or a new diamond kiss from Zales to much more important hopes and wishes.

Over two thousand years and we still haven’t learned to get along, but we can’t give up hope. Take a moment this weekend to pray for Peace and that the hopes and wishes of the soldiers families come true. W.
