Beginnings

Since we are beginning a New Year I think a lot about how to begin this year’s meditations. I have resolutions to read more of the Bible, study the words of great philosophers, and to learn more about the other faiths and paths to God. But where to begin this year’s meditations?

Watchman Nee, one of the Christian leaders, asked what is the minimum requirement of a person to find God. His answer would surprise many fundamentalists and evangelicals. He said we are not required to believe, or to repent, to be conscious of sin, or to know that Christ  died. We are only required to approach God with an honest heart.

So taking my lead from him we will begin the next few weeks exploring our thoughts, our meditations, and our troubles with only one prerequisite – with an open heart. Let’s all take a few moments this weekend to find a quiet place, close our eyes, and open our hearts. Who knows what we may find — God knows.
