Friday In the Third Week of Lent

Sometimes after three weeks of prayer, fasting, meditation, and self-examination, God’s plan for us becomes a little clearer, but damn, his plan isn’t what we want or think is best for us. In fact, his plan is a lot more arduous, challenging, and difficult than we imagined. Negotiation begins, and unlike Jesus who after asking the cup be passed says, “yet not what I want but what you want,” we still negotiate thinking surely God won’t mind a few short cuts and detours.

All our negotiations reflect a weakness in faith and a reluctance to being vulnerable — vulnerable to God. The best we can do is quit negotiating and ask that God strengthen our faith, knowing that when we begin following his plan, it will be much more fulfilling than any plan we can dream up.
