Flexible strength is better than inflexible. Let the storm flow over you, and then pop back up. — Hopi saying.
I know y’all get a chuckle when I write about my Thai Yoga class. The image is laughable even to me, fortunately I don’t have to see myself in some of the poses, there are no mirrors.
The importance of flexibility is taught by nature. We all grew up with the story of the flexible reeds versus the inflexible tree. But there are many more examples: water, electricity, and power all flow where the resistance is least.
I started Yoga because my body had become way too rigid, every motion was met with resistance. After a year, I have come to learn that my mind is probably less flexible than my body.
Part of its is age and the mental inertia that resists all change, but another part of it was a lack of flexibility — an unwillingness to do something different.
Just as I practice Yoga to teach my muscles once again to be flexible, I need to find ways to be more flexible in my thoughts and actions — perhaps expanding my group of friends, finding a new charity needs my help, or simply going with the flow even though it takes me somewhere new.
Yoga taught me that a teacher can help me with my flexibility, maybe flexibility of the mind requires a teacher as well. If that’s the case seek one out.
