There Is Always Reason To Hope

There is always reason to hope even when your eyes are filled with tears. — Henri Nouwen.

One of Tom Hanks most famous lines comes from League of Their Own, when he says there is no crying in baseball. As a little boy my father schooled me much like other boys my age that “Boys don’t cry!”

Many years later, there are times I want to cry when I see the suffering and heartache that is going on in our world. This is a time of tears, but what I know is that this time will pass and life will not end for most of us. It is my hope that out of this crisis we will emerge better people, better neighbors, more generous, and more loving. It is that hope which dries my tears, not my father’s admonition.
