The End Is a New Beginning

To make an end is to make a beginning. The end is where we start from. — Chief Inspector Morse.

Since Covid, Suzy and I have become even bigger fans of British mysteries. Morse and Endeavor are two of our favorites. Toward the end of the Morse series, the protagonist says the above to his doctor. Many of us who are reaching retirement or thinking about changing jobs, need to take heed to  Morse’s words.

The end of of a career, a relationship, or a lifestyle is nothing more than a new start, a new beginning. To dwell or live in the past is to ignore the opportunity. I was recently interviewed for a magazine. It came out yesterday. The title of the article is The Five Lives of Webb Hubbell. In truth I’ve had many more. Each time I thought I had reached the end of a life, I started a new one.

I have to say that I hope that cycle continues.
