In Luke 22:27, Jesus declares, “For which is greater, one who sits at table, or one who serves? Is it not the one who sits at table? But I am among you as one who serves.” This powerful statement reveals a fundamental truth about the nature of God: God is first a servant.
This radically shifts our understanding of power and authority. Instead of seeking positions of dominance and control, we are called to emulate God by embracing a life of service.
How do we honor God? How do we emulate God?
The answer lies in recognizing that true greatness lies not in receiving but in giving. It lies in putting the needs of others before our own, in using our gifts and resources to uplift and empower those around us.
When we come to the divide in the path, we take the road that leads to service.
This becomes our guiding principle. When faced with choices, we ask ourselves: “Which path leads to greater service? Which path allows me to best reflect the love and compassion of God?”
This doesn’t mean self-sacrifice for its own sake. It means recognizing that our lives find their true meaning and fulfillment in serving others. It means living out the words of Jesus: “Whoever wants to be first must be last of all and servant of all.” (Mark 9:35)
