Jimmy Carter

“When the Lord God will wipe away the tears from all faces.” – Isaiah 25:8

President Jimmy Carter was the first U.S. President I ever met in person. I was Mayor at the time, and he invited a group of Mayors to the White House to gather their input on the nation’s economic challenges. I later had the opportunity to meet his wife, Rosalynn, when she visited Little Rock to raise awareness about mental health. We even shared a podium at the event. (Why, oh why, did I wear those pants that day?)

Regardless of one’s views on his presidency, Jimmy Carter’s stature has grown immensely over the past four decades. This growth isn’t attributed to increased wealth or power, but rather to his exemplary leadership. His genuine humility disarmed even his harshest critics, offering a beacon of how we are all called to live, according to God’s will.

Godspeed, Jimmy Carter.
