The Game of Life

I believe we live two lives, one we learn with and the life we live with after that. — Glenn Close, The Natural.

The Natural is one of the top five baseball movies of all time, and Glenn Close uttering Bernard Malmud’s words is my all time movie quote. It was only recently that I learned that the line originated with Confucius who said, “We have two lives, and the second begins when we realize we only have one”

Whoever authored it, (I prefer Glenn Close’s version) the point is well taken. We all make mistakes, if we are talking about me, Glenn would say I’ve lived nine lives, but it’s how we live after we learn that is important. We can’t rewind time, but we can fundamentally change our trajectory going forward.

They say that major events in one’s life are huge stress points, they are also big opportunities. Like Roy Hobbs in The Natural there are some mistakes one never quite gets over or paying for, but its how you play the game after that.
