My good friend, sent me a book on John Garfield. In case you forgot he was the President for a short time before he was assassinated. I’m thoroughly enjoying it. Being a child of the South we essentially skipped over all the President’s from Lincoln to Teddy Roosevelt – something to do with carpetbaggers and “Driving ole Dixie down.” Turns out had Garfield received decent medical treatment, he might be considered one of the greats. More on this after I finish the book.
Why I bring this up is the assassin believed God spoke to him and told him to kill Garfield. Every now and then, we hear or read about someone who believes God has spoken to him or her. Sometimes to do something outrageous, but some time to do something that is truly wonderful. Perhaps instead of waiting to hear the voice of God, we need to just observe. Observe and be alert to his grace and the mystery that surrounds us. We should observe them as the blessings they are, and listen to that interior quiet voice that is not a voice at all. God speaks to us in something beyond words or events.
