Ash Wednesday’s service can be a downer. The reminder of ashes to ashes, dust to dust, doesn’t exactly make you want to shout or dance. There are many ways to draw Lenten analogies. One I hold on to dearly is the thought that over the last year the distance between God and myself has gotten further. Lent is the time of year when I begin an annual journey or pilgrimage back to God. Each day of fasting, prayer, mediation, and worship is a step in our journey until we arrive on Easter morning at the foot of the Cross. We are all his children and God asks us to take the journey home this year.
