Wedenesday in the Third Week of Lent

In a month I’m going to Fayetteville for a football reunion. In past reunions we would talk about old times, work, and family. Recently we talk a lot about our medical conditions. I call it comparing scars. Who had the latest knee, hip, or shoulder replaced. It’s something we all have in common as those years of physical abuse catch up with us. This year I have one hell of a scar to show off.

During Lent we examine our scars, and we all have them. I don’t just mean the scars of our sins in times past. Those scars caused by foolish decisions or mistakes that we now deeply regret. We also examine and show off with pride, like my teammates, the scars made by God when he wouldn’t let go of us. The times he held on tightly when our lives were spinning out of control. The bruises caused when he had to force us away from the wrong path or knock us in the head to wake us up driving down the wrong road. Those scars although not visible we wear with pride. Lent is a time to remember those scars, and thank God for giving them to us.
