They asked only one thing, that we remember the poor…. — Galatians 2:10.
There is an old proverb, “Out of sight, out of mind.” During these days of Covid, we don’t see the poor unless we work in a shelter or a soup kitchen, but they are there in numbers that boggle the mind. I won’t bore you with statistics but the number of children who are food deprived, the number of homeless, and the number of unemployed have grown to heartbreaking numbers. What is one to do, when we are told to stay isolated, don’t leave our house, and only get out in the event of emergancies?
We begin with the words above, “remember the poor,” and then in our own special and unique ways we find ways to help. I’m not here to tell you what to do. Each of us can provide help in our own ways, but today I remind you, and especially myself, to “remember the poor” even when we are behind closed doors.
