Why should I fear turning everything over to God? What is it in me that will call out to God in prayer when I’m in need, but not see the necessity of seeking his advice in my day-to-day life?
It is pure folly to think and act this way.
To think and act this way is to fear that I will have too much courage when I face overwhelming problems, that I will feel too much comfort in God’s love, and that I will not be detached from the passions that make me miserable. To be totally God’s doesn’t mean I have to leave this world, I only need to change my heart’s depth in loving, and I’ll continue to do almost the same things I’m doing. That is of course is if I’m living and honest life, if not I need to change anyway. God doesn’t reverse our conditions usually, nor the responsibilities he has given us, he just asks we do what we do already in service to God and others first, and in so doing, we satisfy ourselves.
The difference in living for God is that we are not devoured by pride or our overbearing passions, instead we act with liberty, courage, and hope. Confidence animates us, and we have wings to fly away and above our troubles. We become a boat with full sail in a fair wind.
