Thanksgiving Week

Readers of the Pew know that Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, and not just because of the food. (A leftover turkey sandwich on white bread is close to heaven.). I love it because it’s all about being thankful, being with friends and family, and exchanging love, kindness, and gratitude. Not a gift needs to be exchanged. Bring yourself, pull up a chair, and share in what life is all about.

I’ve had a few health scares this year, and nothing will make you more thankful than coming to grips with our own fragility. You appreciate what another is going through when you are suffering yourself. Someone is always in more pain than your arthritis, cannot walk when your knees hurt, cannot see when you have lost glasses, or has suffered a more tragic loss. No matter what our circumstances, we have much to thank God.

That is why I call it Thanksgiving Week. Our giving thanks should not be limited to the halftime blessing during the Thanksgiving ball game. Do yourself a favor, spend a little time alone with God talking about all you have to be thankful. Your heart will fill, and all  those moments where you were ready to give up on life will fade into oblivion.

  1. So good! I believe I will join Elvis and make this entire season one of THANKSGIVING…..”Give thanks for all you’ve been blessed with and hold your loved ones tight, for you know the Lord’s been good to you on a snowy Christmas night”. God bless you for sharing these inspirational thoughts.
