Can you drink the cup that I drink of? Mark 10:38
Who’s to know when or how we may be called to take a drink from Christ’s cup – to finish the work God has given us to do. Rodigast said, “The humblest occupation has in it materials of discipline for the highest heaven.”
Often the hardest and difficult part of our work isn’t that last push or finally solving the problem. It is the wearing, daily grind. Men who have taken blow after blow and come back for more are brought to their knees by the harass of a swarm of the mosquitos called small problems. The weight of deep incommunicable grief can turn the warmest hearts to ice. Many have borne torture and unbearable suffering, but can no longer bear the irksome duties of everyday life and finds their spirit revolting from them.
Take heart and arise each morning with the firm resolve to find pleasure in those duties we call daily grind, never ending headaches, and the pesky pinpricks of demands on our time. To do them well, and finish the work God has given us to do every day, that is to drink Christ’s cup.
