Take my life, and let it be
Consecrated, Lord, to Thee
Take my moments and my days
Let them flow in ceaseless praise.—F.R. Havergal
Do you know someone whose days and weeks incorporate a faithful following of God. Is that something you wish for? If so, there are a few things that will inevitably follow, sooner or later. You can’t avoid them. Quietness of spirit will become a characteristic of your daily life. When you suffer all the good pleasure of his will, you will exude sweetness under provocation, calmness in the midst of turmoil, insensibility to slights and affronts, absence of worry or anxiety, and deliverance from fear. All these, and many more qualities, are the outward and visible signs of the natural development of an inward life.
Some may say I’m putting the chicken before the egg. That you must practice these things in order to become a faithful follower. But I have a sneaking suspicion that we should begin with the inward life and conversations with God, and then the qualities will naturally flow into who we are — an outpouring from the source, God.
