Duty

Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the Lord. – Hosea 6:3

I think I remember this right. If not someone will correct me. I believe the Boy Scout Oath begins, “On my honor, I will do my duty, to God and my country.” The problem we have as we grow older is how to we go about it.

We begin by knowing the more we spend time considering what our duty is in a particular circumstance, the more we do nothing but explaining it away. It is by doing our duty, we learn to do it. As long as we debate whether something is our duty or not, we remain in place.

No matter how timidly, set about doing your duty and quickly every doubt goes away. We find strength we never knew we had. Difficulties which seemed impossible to overcome disappear. For when we see a neighbor’s need and begin the process to help, God intervenes to help, and each time we begin our minds open for larger influxes of His grace.

Every step taken to help your fellow man or woman puts you in communion with God.
