Readers of the Pew remember my shower thoughts. I used to do my best thinking in the shower, composing closing arguments to a jury, solving a client’s problem, or writing that last paragraph of a judicial opinion. Later, some of my better Pews were formulated under hot mist.
I haven’t had many great shower thoughts lately, although I promise I still shower daily. However, today I was giving myself a lecture about health and attitude while rinsing when something clicked. I remembered that every day is a bonus for me. Over eleven years ago, I was given the gift of life when I received a transplant. Any complaints I have about aches and pains or things not going my way don’t amount to a hill of beans compared to what I faced a decade ago.
I won the the biggest lottery there is, and each and every day since June 2010, I have or will live is a bonus. God, my donor-“George,” my doctors, and yours truly should expect out of me a life filled with gratitude, love, and free of complaints.
The thing is that I made it through other “events” in my life, perhaps not as dramatic as a transplant, but serious enough that I should have been aware that today and every day is a bonus. I bet if you think about it, so have you. If today was my last, would I be focused on a little pain in my knee or saying “I love you,” to someone special.
We are all lottery winners in the sweepstakes of life. How will you spend your prize?
Lovely! And thanks for the reminder! 💕💕
Slowly, happily and in the company of good people like you I hope! Having lived through the last 70 years I have seen and experienced more than most and am extremely thankful for every new day going forward!
