He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much. Luke 16:10
The trivial round, the common task,
Would furnish all we ought to ask;
Room to deny ourselves, a road
To bring us, daily, nearer God. J. Keble
I kid about giving up oatmeal raisin cookies for Lent, but there is a lesson there. It is a trivial round for sure, but what does it say about me and my faithfulness when I fall off the wagon. How can I be faithful in what really counts when I can’t be when I am playing the Trivial Round? We are all too fond of our own will. We think we should be doing grand and glorious things in the service of God and others, when in fact our first calling is to do the small things we know are part of God’s call, in the right spirit.
Occasions constantly pop up where we know we need to be faithful. Don’t pass them by. Our spiritual advancement depends on the how we perform in the trivial round.
