Freedom

Episcopalians say early and often “In His service is perfect freedom.”  For some reason I haven’t really thought of it until this morning. In life we serve lots of masters — parents, employers, teachers, societal pressures, our fears, the list is a mile long. It is only when we serve God by serving others that we are truly free. Serving the other masters in our life is not freedom and in many cases can be oppressive, but when we serve God we do so freely without any fear of reprisal.

God may be watching, but he doesn’t dock our pay,  put us in “time out” or a prison cell if we disobey. When we serve others from our heart, rather from some pressure from a master we are free.

So this morning go and serve the Lord, because when we do we can sing, “I’m free!”
