Last week, I listened to Gary Hart, Former U.S. Senator and Presidential candidate, speak about his latest book. Senator Hart who is a big advocate for national service said the words that most influenced him were JFK’s, “Ask Not” part of his first inaugural address.
I’d like to take those powerful words further. A major part of Christ’s message and teachings were the admonition to “Ask what you can do for your neighbor.” Whether our neighbor is wounded in a ditch, homeless and hungry, or simply needs carrying in the groceries, we are all called to bring help, comfort, and love to our neighbors.
Ask what you can do. You will be surprised at the answer.
I shared this today on Facebook because we are all at home more now and can reach out to neighbors who may or may not be homebound. Thank you for the thoughtful writing.
