Before we left to attend my granddaughter’s first birthday last weekend, we woke to no hot water. Our very old hot water gave out. We of course asked the plumber, “Can it be fixed?” His answer was what we feared, “We can try, but finding the necessary parts for the old girl won’t be easy. You might be without hot water for weeks.” Guess what? We have a new hot water heater. Oh, the joys of home ownership, something is always breaking.
People break from time to time. Some get sick, some can’t handle certain stresses, the list goes on. The good news is that most of us can be repaired. I should know, I am running on several spare parts, missing a few parts, and hopeful that I outlive the battery of my pacemaker. Yes, most people can be fixed or fine tuned to keep going for a lot longer than one can expect. Modern science is constantly inventing “miracles.”
It is easy to react to news of a breakage, whether it be heaters or humans, with irritation and frustration. I admit to not being happy about replacing our hot water heater, but as I took a hot shower this morning I came to the realization how fortunate I was. Things can be repaired or replaced, modern medicine and treatment helps repair lots of humanities’ brokenness.
Can it/we be fixed? The answer is often, yes.
