They asked only one thing, that we remember the poor…. Galations 2:10.
Poor to some is a relative term. Does it mean you don’t have a place to sleep, food to eat, money to cloth yourself or your family, etc? My suspicion is this bible verse’s definition is very broad and meant to include more and those who are poor in spirit.
I am constantly amazed at the number of people in this country who must visit soup kitchens and food banks for their meals, sleep on park benches and under bridges for shelter, and have to scrounge and beg for what are considered basic necessities. Do you think we was a society really remember the poor?
Before legislation is passed in many houses of government the bill is scrutinized for how it might affect the deficit, environment, etc. Perhaps, before a law issued passed someone should ask, “How does it affect the poor?”
More importantly, we wake up every morning, check our calendars and say to ourselves, “What am I forgetting?” The answer includes, “Remember the poor.”
