But the souls of the righteous are in the hand of God, and no torment will ever touch them. — Wisdom 3:1.
My mother’s soul is one hundred and five today. Her physical body left this earth long ago, but I am convinced that her soul remains “in the hands of God.”
As we get older, we lose the physical presence of friends and family more often than I care to admit. With each passing, I feel like an old tree losing its leaves one at a time. A little bit of me is gone with each friend, family member or close acquaintance.
But today’s verse brings me comfort. Not only is every soul in the hands of God, but life’s torments are extinquished.
My mother’s last words were, “I am going home.” She wasn’t talking about her house on Mellon street, but a permanent home where no torment will ever touch her.
