I composed a great Pew in my sleep last night. Problem is, I can’t remember word of it. Very few of my dreams stay with me by the time I wake.
If I told a particular friend of mine about my dream, he would exclaim, “Wonderful,” and remind me that that dreamwork is the most important work we can do — In his opinion dreaming is more important to mental health than just about anything. Even nightmares heal, according to my friend.
During Lent we are encouraged to meditate and pray. Both of these disciplines include a type of dreaming or dreamwork because we stimulate nerve cells that are dormant. Lenten meditation and prayer, much like dreamwork, are healthy and important exercises for our mental well-being.
Many think of Lent as a time of sacrifice, when it really is a time to develop healthy habits.
