The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, “Look a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax-collectors and sinners.” — Matthew 11:19.
Human nature is a funny thing. People are always on the lookout for what someone does wrong, not what someone does right. First, they criticize John for eating locusts and living in a desert, and then Jesus drinks wine and dances at weddings, and he’s called a drunkard and glutton. The religious leaders at the time were certainly hard to please.
Jesus befriended those who didn’t have friends or were otherwise outcasts. The religious leaders at the time were so busy judging others, they ignored their flock. When we criticize and judge, we fail to ease anyone’s burden and pain.
Eat with sinners, drink with outcasts, and love your neighbors.
