It’s hard to believe half the year is gone. The initial instinct is to assess – is the glass half full or half empty? Sure, there were health hurdles, but there’s also the immense satisfaction of finishing my novel, hitting bookstores next month! While a part of me whispers “I could’ve done more,” the other part recognizes – at this stage in life, simply doing anything is a victory.
But here’s the thing: focusing on the passage of time, on mile markers, can be a trap. Living in the present, savoring the moment, that’s where true fulfillment lies. Perhaps the more meaningful reflection is on impact – who did I touch in these past six months? What new knowledge did I gain? What experiences enriched my life?
More importantly, what will today bring? How can I serve my faith, my community, my loved ones? What actions can make 2024 truly special? Dwelling on the past only holds lessons, not progress. Today is a marker, yes, but it’s also the start of a new chapter, a chance to write a beautiful story in the remaining half of the year.
