My Time

Psalm 102:23, He has brought down my strength before my time, strikes a chord, especially when juxtaposed with the sobering truth that “we have no right to a long life.” As a transplant recipient, I’ve been granted a precious extension of time, a gift for which I am eternally grateful. Yet, this extended lease on life has also sharpened my awareness of mortality’s shadow. The fear of the unknown, of when my luck might finally run out, is a constant companion.

However, this experience has paradoxically deepened my appreciation for each passing day. It has fueled a desire to live with intention, to savor every moment, and to make a positive impact on the world. Perhaps the true measure of life isn’t its length, but its depth and the richness of experiences we accumulate along the way. As the Psalmist laments the brevity of his life, I find solace in the knowledge that every day is a precious opportunity to love, learn, and grow. It is in embracing this perspective that I find true freedom and fulfillment.
