Indiscriminate Sowing

A sower went out to sow his seed. — Luke 8:5a

Jesus’ parable of the sower is a timeless tale, offering new insights with each reading. Today, it prompted me to reflect on my own actions. I asked myself, how often have I withheld kindness, love, or generosity, believing someone wasn’t ready, worthy, or deserving? Who am I to judge whether someone is fertile soil for God’s gifts?”

God’s love is indiscriminate, freely given to all regardless of their circumstances. As his/her children, we are called to reflect this love in our lives by sowing seeds of kindness, compassion, and forgiveness without judgment. While indiscriminate sowing may seem risky, the parable reminds us that even in the harshest conditions, seeds can find a way to grow.

I am called to be generous, especially in love. God has shown me great generosity, even when I was unyielding, and certainly unworthy. Perhaps I need to be more indiscriminate, less cynical, and more joyful in sharing love. By sowing seeds of love unconditionally, we create fertile ground for growth, not only in others but also in ourselves. Indiscriminate sowing fosters community, belonging, and a more compassionate world.
