Rejected Stones

Western North Carolina and its people have endured immense suffering since Hurricane Helena. The once vibrant town of Fairview, where my daughter and her family reside, now bears the scars of the storm like so many other communities. As the news of the devastation unfolded, Suzy shared her sorrow, “It feels like we’ve lost a part of ourselves.” The loss of homes, livelihoods, and cherished landscapes has left a profound impact on the community.

Yet, amidst the wreckage, a remarkable spirit of resilience has emerged. Friends have rallied to support friends, neighbors have helped neighbors, and countless strangers have extended a helping hand. This outpouring of love and compassion is a testament to the enduring power of the human spirit.

As Jesus said, “He who rejects me, rejects the one who sent me.” (Luke 20:17b, NIV). In the face of rejection and adversity, we can find solace in the knowledge that God’s love is unwavering. No matter how broken or rejected we may feel, God’s grace can restore us. Let us embrace this opportunity to rebuild our communities, not just physically, but spiritually as well.
