My yoga instructor told me a story this morning. (Okay, don’t laugh I am learning how to stretch).
Seems that recently in Thailand there was an ancient statue of Buddha that had to be moved. They had to be careful because it was ancient and it had lots of cracks in the plaster. It started to rain so they covered it with a tarp and late that night one monk went out to check and discovered the wind had blown the tarp away. The monk started to inspect the statue, and when he shined his lantern on some of the cracks, the Buddha seemed to emit light from the inside. The monk told his companions and the next morning they started to chip away at the cracks to see where the light was coming from. They soon discovered that inside the plaster hard statue was a solid gold Buddha, covered centuries earlier to avoid waring tribes from stealing it.
We are all like the Buddha. Time and years oft troubles tend to cover the bright soul we each have on the inside. As we meditate this week, think about how you can remove the plaster cast that hides the light inside each and every one of us.
