I know if I speak to an audience whether it be a book club, university, or business organization and after I conclude and say, “Are there any questions?’ if I get no response I’ve given a lousy talk.
No I’m not talking about the initial pause that comes after the question. That’s just a factor of no one wanting to be first. But if the response is really — no questions — I feel like I didn’t get my message across.
Doubt is the companion of faith, not the polar opposite as some would have you believe. We are called to question, to doubt, to explore, and learn about our faith.
If we fail to ask questions we aren’t taking our faith seriously. Our morning meditations are meant to be explorations, not exercises in blind acceptance.
