In most traditional meditation sessions one is encouraged to take slow deep breaths and to concentrate on one’s breathing.
I heard today that it is important to concentrate on slowing down my breath. Some even believe that at birth we are only assigned a certain number of breaths, so the slower we breath the longer we live.
I’m not sure about that premise, but I do know when I slow down my breathing my whole body tends to relax.
I also learned today that every breath we take has a beginning, a middle and an end. To some extent breathing is a metaphor for life.
More on this tomorrow, but for today take a few minutes to breathe slowly, deeply, and restfully.
