The Joy of Practice

Practice Makes Perfect

We all know we will never be perfect but we do understand that the more we practice the better we will become at whatever we wish to become.
There are a thousand sports analogies about practice, and I may have heard them all, but the bottom line of them all is if we wish to improve in a given sport we need to practice.
We who profess faith are called to practice as well—through regular prayer and meditation; through attention to family, friends, nature, and that guiding voice that nudges and whispers; and through active works of kindness and support.
When I was a young boy I used to shoot hoops until it was dark, and throw rubber balls against a wall until my arm could throw no more. I look back on those times as some of my best, certainly some of the most joyful.
Are you joyful when you are practicing your faith? If not perhaps God is nudging you in a different direction.
