It easier to speak of love, than to practice it. — Anonymous
Today I am about travel on dangerous ground. God is teasing us in Charlotte with a springlike day and when spring arrives a young man (of which I’m not) turns to fancy and love. I started dating Suzy in the spring of 1971, and I’ve been falling in love ever since. Certainly for better or worse, richer or poorer, and in sickness or in health. I believe that being in love is something one must experience, and changes you more than any other worldly experience.
My friend Rob sent me a Richard Rohr meditation that explores the idea that God wants to have a love affair with our soul, and all that it takes from us is a willingness to be open to change and an entirely new experience. The Lenten season is opportunity for us to get to know God as a suitor and to entire into a lifetime experience that is beyond description. Through meditation, prayer, sacrifice, and fasting we get to know each other in a new and wonderful way.
