Jesus began to weep. — John 11:35.
Men aren’t supposed to cry. It is ingrained in us early, sometimes beaten into us. We can lose our temper, we can be violent, but we are not supposed to cry. It might be okay to cry at a sappy Hallmark movie like I’m prone to do, but cry because of the loss of a friend or a family member — “suck it up and never let them see you cry.”
Maybe John wrote this verse for a reason. He’s telling us that’s its okay to weep. There are times to weep. There are times to cry. As we commemorate September 11, as we almost reach 200,000 deaths due to an invisible virus, and as we lose a friend it is a time to cry.
Go ahead, Jesus gave us all permission.
Exceptional, Webb. I read this to Caroline tonight.
