Happiness

“Happiness consists not in having, but of
being, not of possessing, but of enjoying.
It is the warm glow of a heart at peace
with itself.”
–Norman Vincent Peale

“Action may not bring happiness but there is no happiness without action.”  — William James
People send me all the time their favorite quotes. Today, “Happiness” must be on everyone’s minds. Maybe it because today marks the end of the political conventions.

Speaking of which, after tonight we will officially have the nominees of all four major political parties. My thoughts about this go to the words of an old American Indian Chief:

“A good heart and a good mind – those are what you need to be a chief.”

Perhaps our political processes overcomplicate the decision each potential voter must weigh. I used to discuss this very topic with one of the candidates when it came to selecting Judges. I would say that when it came to picking judges, look for keen intelligence, but more importantly a warm heart.
I would say the same when it comes to choosing our next chief. Choose someone with a good mind and a good heart, and between the two, I would choose the one with the best heart.
