Internal peace is an essential first step to achieving peace in the world. How do you cultivate it? It’s very simple. In the first place by realizing clearly that all mankind is one, that human beings in every country are members of one and the same family. The Dalai Lama
Long time readers of the Pew know that I ask for world peace as the first thing on my Christmas list every year. The Dalai Lama gives me and all of us an opportunity to make my futile Christmas wish a reality.
He suggests that World peace begins with each of us working, cultivating, and realizing that all members of humankind are of one family. Not too different I would say than the words “all men are created equal” which unfortunately got lost in translation.
Internal peace begins with the realization that we are all family — composed of members who are different, crazy at times, have different interests, but the same in more ways than we are different.
I am fortunate to have twin grandsons. They two are different in their interests, food they like, and just about everything except one — they are family and nothing comes between them or succeeds in tearing them apart. Love for each trumps everything else even when they are wrestling in the pool.
