Dear Tom:
Do you remember hearing the words, “the sky is the limit for you?” It would have been a time when someone in your life was encouraging you in your job, your profession, or your life. Our wisdom teaches us to embrace those moments. It is a time when life calls us to stretch or break. Sufism teaches that the training of the heart begins with the interplay between need and capacity. We are to bring the need and God provides the capacity, and the capacity is limitless. Rumi teaches, “increase your need, so God can give you more.”
Even when we bring doubt along with need we bring something. God accepts bad currency as well as good. Doubt is merely an obstacle. Doubt is power. Yet when we can overcome the “doubt obstacles,” we progress. We overcome the energy of doubt to see the way. When we accept that the “sky is the limit” and take the opportunity to touch that part of us that has the limitless capacity we experience — the divine embrace.
Your friend, Webb
