Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility regard others as better than yourselves. — Philippians 2:3
Suzy and I were talking the other day and found ourselves asking, “How do you teach humility?”
Although it is a much admired attribute, it doesn’t come naturally. Probably the best way to teach humility is by example.
Humility comes from a position of strength so it may seem counterintuitive, but a way to teach humility is to heap praise on your student.
Whether you are a child or a President humility comes from gratitude. Perhaps one of the best ways to teach humility is to teach gratitude and the words, “Thank You.”
A grateful heart is a key building block for humility. Gratitude, practiced and owned, enhances humility. Saying “thank you” affects a posture that is unassuming and modest. When you say, “thank you.” it soaks in, grows roots, and blooms humility.
How do you teach humility? It’s worth a meditation and a prayer, or two.
