And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age. — Matthew 28:20
When I went on sabbatical, I visited a few of what people might describe as God forsaken and forgotten places.
During my life and travels, I’ve driven thru or visited places that are so steeped in poverty and neglect they seem forsaken and forgotten, they are certainly forgotten by those who govern.
In today’s gospel, Christ reminds us that even in those dark and foreboding places he is with its inhabitants, just as he is with us when we experience dark nights of our soul.
Yet, to those who inhabit those forsaken places, they struggle with doubt and defeat. Wouldn’t you if you found yourself there? I know I struggled at times when I was there.
In Christ’s message that he is with us all, perhaps he is also telling us to seek him in those forsaken and forgotten places. That is where we will find him.
When we bring hope and comfort to those who have none, we are following his command to “follow me” wherever he goest.
