Even the unforgotten is still forgiven. — Teresa Mateus
After, I read the above I wondered whether God forgets. I know he forgives.
Is God like me in that I have trouble remembering joyful moments, but the painful moments never seem to go away?
I don’t think so, rather the opposite. God can always recall the joy, and the pain and betrayal I have caused is not only forgiven but forgotten.
In this season of lament we need to work on thinking and remembering like God.
Quick to forgive and forget the pain whether the sources is someone else or ourselves.
Slow to let go of the joy we have given others or received.
I realize as I sit in reverence and silence that my failure to recall joy shows a lack of respect for those who bring me happiness.
I need to quit honoring the painful with my memory, and to turn my memory to those many beautiful moments I’ve had and received.
