Lent is a time to incline our hearts toward God, much like a flower or a blade of grass follows the sun across the sky.
My Yoga instructor was lamenting her schedule, saying there was never any time for family or church.
It wasn’t my place, especially as I was twisted like a pretzel, to suggest she had it backwards.
She needed to center her day around family and God first, not during the spare moments available after work.
Our fast-paced society puts work first, family and God second at best. Lent is a time to reverse the trend.
First set aside time for prayer, meditation, and service, and only then allow work or other time demands to enter these forty days.
When we incline our hearts to God, when we make it the center of every day, then we start to respond to his light without even thinking.
Soon inclining one’s heart to God feels natural, something you don’t even realize you are doing.
