Pray For Us

Beloved, pray for us. — 1 Thessalonians 5:25.

For some reason, public discussion of prayer has fallen into disrespect. People are critical when someone says, “You are in my thoughts and prayers.” I don’t understand this.

I know at many critical junctures in my life the only person I could turn to was God, and I welcomed anybody’s prayers on my behalf. I was raised to believe that intercessions and requests for others was what we did?

Maybe this disrespect is more about believing the speaker is not sincere, but praying for someone is what neighbors do and if the speaker does in fact pray for me or a neighbor his/her prayers are welcome and appreciated.

A good old fashioned conversation with God is one of the most comforting thing we can do. When someone asks, “pray for us.” Take it as an opportunity for him or her, and for you!
