Dear Tom:
In the four unit complex where we live, a woman takes care of the common areas, does housekeeping if you want, supervises the people who take care of the outside, knows who to call when anything is broken, and knows everything about everyone who lives in the complex. She used to be an executive at Bank of America, but she got caught up in the economic upheaval, we are all now experiencing. She now does what she does for our complex, for other small complexes, and individuals. I am home a lot now, so we talk (another thing she does, very well, I might add). Recently, she was explaining to me how she and her artisan husband now try to be self-sufficient concerning things that need to be fixed around the home. If a pipe is leaking she learns how to fix it and does it. The same goes for almost everything for which she used to call a repairman, installer, or contractor. She smiles; not because she is saving money; but at the new skills she is acquiring.
After she left today, I started thinking about our conversation. I admire people who have that particular faculty of heart and mind that they meet life’s challenges in the right way at the right time, and untie the knots these challenges present. My new friend has a special power within that enabled her to come full circle and take her challenge and use it to acquire new skills. It is not many of us that think of a leaking pipe as an opportunity.
Whatever life throws on us, divine guidance will provide us a response. When faced with a life puzzle we just begin working, not presuming to know the answer, but trusting that the solution will be revealed. Along the way we may not continue down the same path, the new skill we acquire may take us in a new direction.
Your Friend, Webb
I admire this too, very much. Thanks for sharing-sounds like this caretaker can offer all of us some nice perspective.
