Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass. It’s about learning to dance in the rain. — Anon.
Actually the above has nothing to do about today’s meditation, I just came across it and liked it. Suzy would say, I first have to learn to dance — period. She’s right as always.
John answered them, “I baptize with water. Among you stands one whom you do not know, the one who is coming after me; I am not worthy to untie the thong of his sandal.” — John 1:26-28.
In the Book of John three times the Baptist insists he is not the Christ or a prophet — merely “the voice of one crying in the wilderness.” I like John and wish we knew more about him. He had the guts to call out King Herod for living in sin, ultimately his willingness to say even the king is not above God’s law cost him his head. We could use a few John the Baptist’s these days. But I stray.
John sets an example for us all, and especially for those in leadership positions, especially in religious leadership positions, because he directs any attention toward him away from himself and to Jesus. In a nutshell he says, “Folks it is not about me, it’s the other guy” who baptizes with the holy spirit.
We are to follow John’s lead, it’s our job to direct people to the man who walked the earth over two centuries ago. It is he we are to follow. He leads us directly to God and a richer life.
